BEWLEY EYES WARSAW COMEBACK AFTER WITHDRAWING FROM BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Great Britain racer Dan Bewley has his sights set on a comeback for the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw on August 29 after confirming he will not race in Saturday’s Cab Direct British Speedway Championship Final.

In a video posted on YouTube on Wednesday night, Bewley confirmed he will not be ready to race at the Manchester event as he continues his recovery from the broken femur that he suffered in a Danish Speedwayligaen meeting in Outrup on May 20.

Bewley was part of the GB side that stormed to victory in WWK Schwaiger & Partner FIM SWC Semi-Final 1 – Landshut on May 1, securing a spot in track racing’s biggest event of 2026 at Warsaw’s PGE Narodowy, where they face hosts and champions Poland, Australia and Denmark.

While he is still working on his recovery, Bewley admits he would love to take his place in the Polish capital. He said: “My current plans are that the World Cup Final is in two weeks, and that is still a goal of mine. I would like to race there in Warsaw on the temporary track. The SWC has always been my favourite meeting in speedway, so that is a huge goal, just to be back in time for that. At the moment, that’s my target, so we will see. It is tough to say – it is sort of 50/50.”

Bewley was hoping to return for the British Final, but admits the event, which is being televised live on ITV4 and ITVX in the UK, comes too soon as he continues to get back on two wheels.

He said: “Everything is going pretty well – not as well as maybe I would have liked, but it is going well. I feel better and I am able to do more and more stuff.

“But that brings us to the British Final. If I go back a month from now, my plan two weeks ago was that I was coming back to England, and I was going to get the 125cc speedway bike out and do a bit of riding. I wanted to do a week on that and play around. This week, my plan was to be riding the 500cc, get down to Workington and spin a few laps and then do the British Final.

“Unfortunately, that plan never really materialised. On that, and I’ll just get this out of the way, I will be pulling out of the British Final.

“It is something I really wanted to do – even up until this week. I did a mountain bike race at the weekend on Saturday, and I actually felt really good. I thought I would see how I recovered and see how I felt after that.

“I kind of feel like I could get on and get straight into it. It’s almost a waste of time practising in a way. You can just go straight to the tapes. You perform differently when you race. It’s easy to go fast if you race.

“In a way, if I felt good, I was prepared to rock up on Saturday night and go for it, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen. I was feeling like I was getting better and better, but I did the mountain bike race on Saturday, and when you race, you put a bit more effort in.

“I had a couple of heavier hits, but nothing crazy. I have been doing a lot of stuff that people might question and ask, ‘How can you do that? If you can do that, you should be able to race speedway.’ I can ride a mountain bike and really compensate with my good leg and take the load off and not do anything to hurt myself. I know what hurts.

“That was on Saturday, and after that, I really didn’t feel very good until Tuesday. Even today (Wednesday), I do not feel like I am fully recovered from it. If I had a good recovery from that, that could have been me feeling good to go. But that hasn’t quite happened.”

Bewley’s place in the British Final line-up is taken by former SGP2 star Jake Mulford.
