Speedway GP star Dan Bewley racked up a maximum 32 paid 33 points across an awesome Easter Monday to keep Belle Vue in the hunt for a Premiership Knockout Cup Final spot.
The Cumbrian powered to a 15-point maximum as the Aces won 57-33 at home to Leicester at lunchtime, before scoring 17 paid 18 in the evening as the Lions won the return leg 50-40. But the defeat was enough for Belle Vue to secure the bonus point 97-83 on aggregate.
Bewley was backed up by 12 paid 13 from Aussie racer Zach Cook in Manchester, while former SGP winner Peter Kildemand starred with 10 at Beaumont Park.
Leicester’s Aussie racer Ryan Douglas kept them in the contest in the Manchester leg, scoring 13 points, before compatriot Sam Masters starred in the evening on nine paid 11.
Aces’ aggregate win means Sheffield, who won the bonus point against Belle Vue, can seal a spot in the Final if they win one meeting against Leicester and take the bonus point across their two-legged Northern Section tie.
The sides meet at Owlerton on April 16, before Leicester stages the return on April 23. The Northern Section winner faces the top team from the Southern Section, featuring Ipswich, King’s Lynn and league newcomers Northampton.
