BEWLEY'S HOME HEROICS

Great Britain racer Dan Bewley was pleased to break his home hoodoo for Wroclaw as he went unbeaten in the club’s PGE Ekstraliga season opener against Zielona Gora on Friday.

Bewley bagged a 12 paid 15-point maximum, while world No.2 Brady Kurtz and 2021 Speedway GP world champion Artem Laguta also went unbeaten on 14 paid 15 points apiece. Poland’s former world No.3 Maciej Janowski roared into form with 11 paid 13.

The hosts took full advantage of Falubaz being without the injured Leon Madsen. Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs topped the visitors’ scoring on eight points, while Dominik Kubera and Przemyslaw Pawlicki scored six paid seven each.

It was a great start to the Polish season for Bewley, who admits he struggled to find his best form at the Olympic Stadium last season.

He said: “First of all, it was a good result for the team. It was the first meeting of the season and a pretty strong performance.

“For me, I am pretty happy. I had some good races. I didn’t score double figures at home all season last year, so this was a much better start to the year. I am happy. To be honest, I think I am riding pretty well everywhere. Last season, I was pretty good away and I just couldn’t get going at home. I don’t know why.

“This is a much better start to the season, and I am looking forward to next week in Gorzow.”

Elsewhere, Ukrainian sensation Nazar Parnitskyi powered to a 13 paid 15-point maximum for newly promoted Leszno as they thrashed Czestochowa 59-31 at Alfred Smoczyk Stadium.

The Speedway GP newcomer was backed up by a 12-point tally from Piotr Pawlicki, while Aussie ace Ben Cook also impressed on nine paid 11. Aussie star Rohan Tungate was the Lions’ top scorer on 11 paid 12, with former World Under-21 champion Jaimon Lidsey adding 11.

The PGE Ekstraliga action continues on Sunday as Grudziadz hosts Gorzow, before Lublin hosts champions Torun in a rerun of the 2025 PGE Ekstraliga play-off final.
