EKSTRALIGA | KURTZ HEROICS NOT ENOUGH TO SAVE WROCLAW FROM DEFEAT

Aussie racer Brady Kurtz racked up a sensational 16 points against PGE Ekstraliga champions Lublin, but it was not enough to save them from a 47-43 home loss as Jakub Krawczyk crashed out on Sunday evening.

Kurtz dropped just two points from six races in a sublime showing at the Olympic Stadium. Artem Laguta scored seven paid eight, Dan Bewley raced to seven, while Maciej Janowski collected six paid eight points.

Disaster struck for Wroclaw in heat six when Polish Under-21 champion Jakub Krawczyk crashed with Jack Holder, with the 2024 SGP2 rider confirming via Facebook that he suffered a broken tibia.

Five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik led the Lublin charge on 12, with Fredrik Lindgren notching nine paid 11, SGP2 champion Wiktor Przyjemski bagging nine, Holder scoring seven paid eight and Dominik Kubera recording seven.

In the day’s other meeting, Polish star Piotr Pawlicki powered to a 13 paid 15-point maximum for Czestochowa to inspire them to a 54-36 win at home to Gorzow.

Pawlicki was aided by an 11-point haul from Wiktor Lampart, nine paid 11 from Kacper Woryna and eight from SGP star Jason Doyle.

Slovakia’s Martin Vaculik was Gorzow’s top performer on 10, with Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs adding nine paid 10 and Anders Thomsen picking up nine.

The weekend’s outstanding fixture between Rybnik and Torun will be raced on Tuesday after it was postponed last Friday due to rain.
