Polish icon Bartosz Zmarzlik blazed to a 15-point maximum for Swedish champions Lejonen as they took their place in the Bauhaus Elitserien semi-finals with a 51-39 victory at home to Rospiggarna on Tuesday.
The Lions completed a home and away double to advance to the last four, with five-time Speedway GP world champion Zmarzlik unbeaten over five rides, while two-time SGP2 champion Mateusz Cierniak added 11 and Speedway GP star Dominik Kubera scored nine paid 11.
German racer Kai Huckenbeck led the Rospiggarna scoring on 11 paid 12 points, while 2021 Speedway GP world champion Artem Laguta collected 10 paid 11 points.
Elsewhere, Swedish star Fredrik Lindgren piled up 13 paid 14 points for Vastervik as they booked their spot in the semis with a 54-36 triumph at home to near neighbours Dackarna.
He was well supported by 10 paid 13 from Great Britain racer Robert Lambert, while Jacob Thorssell added 11 and Mads Hansen scored 10 paid 11. Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs was Dackarna’s top performer on 10 paid 11.
In the evening’s other quarter final, Polish star Maksym Drabik racked up 12 paid 13 points for Smederna as they booked their semi-final place with a 52-38 win at home to Indianerna.
Drabik was backed up by a 10 paid 11 haul from Danish champion Michael Jepsen Jensen, with former world No.2 Leon Madsen notching nine paid 12 and Norway’s SGP2 bronze medallist Mathias Pollestad adding seven paid nine points.
Despite their loss, Indianerna also take their place in the semi-finals as the best of the defeated quarter finalists. With Vastervik beating Dackarna 100-80 and Lejonen seeing off Rospiggarna by the same scoreline, Indians’ 98-82 loss to Smederna was enough to see them progress.
A huge win from skipper Szymon Wozniak in heat 15 sealed their passage into the next round of the play-offs, with the former Speedway GP star scoring 13. Speedway European Championship leader Patryk Dudek added eight.
