Australian ace Max Fricke ended his four-year wait for an FIM Speedway Grand Prix win as he led an historic Aussie one-two-three at ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester R3 on Friday.
Fricke returned to his former British home track and defied the Manchester rain to triumph ahead of world No.2 Brady Kurtz in second and world No.5 Jack Holder in third place in a restarted final.
Polish icon Bartosz Zmarzlik crashed in the first run of the race on turn one and was disqualified from the restart. But he still did enough to hold the Speedway GP World Championship lead going into ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester R4 – part two of the double-header on Saturday night.
Zmarzlik is now on 46 championship points, but Kurtz is now just one behind him on 45 in the battle for the Golden Race Jacket. Holder also surged from fifth to third place, moving on to 41.
