HOLDER SEEKS WORLD TEAM DOUBLE IN WARSAW

Aussie star Jack Holder has his sights on a world team double in Poland as the Roos prepare for the PZM FIM Speedway World Cup Final at Warsaw’s PGE Narodowy on August 29.

The team from Down Under secured their spot in the biggest speedway event of 2026 after winning the FIM Speedway of Nations in Torun last October.

Holder joined forces with world No.2 Brady Kurtz to beat Polish pair Bartosz Zmarzlik and Patryk Dudek 7-2 in the Grand Final as the Roos won their second SON world title in four seasons.

Australia has not topped the SWC podium since 2002, and Holder would love to end the wait for another gold medal in the sport’s original team event this summer.

He said: “We have won the Speedway of Nations twice now, so the next step is the World Cup with the five-man team. That will be good. It’s in Warsaw on an indoor track, and a few of the Aussie boys really like those ones. We’ll try and steal it off Poland in their back yard again.”

The Aussies are being labelled as SWC favourites by some, as Max Fricke, Jason Doyle and Holder have all topped the FIM Warsaw Speedway GP podium, while Kurtz finished second to Holder in the 2025 event.

But the Sheffield and Gorzow star is paying little attention to those tipping his side to overcome Poland and the two Semi-Final winners. He said: “We’re Aussies – we don’t really look into that too much. We’ll just let our riding do the talking on the track. They should be worried about us.”

Aussie boss Mark Lemon is rarely short of options for the national side, with four Speedway GP riders at his disposal in Holder, Kurtz, Doyle and Fricke, as well as the likes of 2012 world champion Chris Holder, Rohan Tungate, Jaimon Lidsey and Keynan Rew.

Holder said: “We definitely have a good bunch of boys, who will be looking to get their spot in the World Cup. There are a few riders going well, but it’s a whole different level when you step up for the World Cup.

“We need to look at who is good under pressure, but that’s not up to me. I’ll be there for 100 percent if selected, and we’ll leave it up to Lemo to see who he wants to pick. Whoever he picks, we’ll go out there and do the job.”
