JAKOBSEN'S SGP SNEAK PREVIEW IN VOJENS?

Danish racer Frederik Jakobsen hopes his debut FIM Speedway Grand Prix appearance tonight will be the first of many as he lines up in the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens.

Jakobsen earned his spot in Denmark’s best motorsport event by finishing second at the Danish Championship Final in Esbjerg on June 17, beaten only by SGP regular Leon Madsen.

But having finished seventh at the FIM SGP Challenge in Terenzano, Italy on July 25, he could become a full-time member of the Speedway GP line-up for 2027 if at least three of Robert Lambert, Kacper Woryna, Andzejs Lebedevs and Michael Jepsen Jensen reach the 2026 Speedway GP top seven.

FIM SGP Challenge winner Lambert is one championship point away from guaranteeing a top-seven spot, which would in turn hand a 2027 berth to Lebedevs after he was placed fifth in Italy. If sixth-placed Woryna also retains his top-seven position and either Lebedevs in ninth or MJJ in fourth ends the year in the automatic qualification positions, Jakobsen is set for the 2027 Speedway GP series.

“I joked with Woryna in Warsaw that I am his biggest fan for the rest of the season,” Jakobsen said. “It’s a cool scenario. It’s also a bit out of my hands. I did what I could in Italy. I felt I raced better than the points I got there, so now, it is pretty much just a waiting game to see what happens.

“I’ll get a lot of experience under my belt on Saturday and get a feeling for everything, just in case I get a spot for next season.

“Saturday is a massive moment for sure. I’m pretty excited. I know this year has built up towards it a lot. I feel like my progress has been great, and I feel like the confidence in myself, and the equipment is there for me to perform well.”

The 28-year-old believes this is his time to take the step into Speedway GP. He said: “I would have liked to have raced in the GPs a few years ago, but I am pretty happy I didn’t as of now because I feel I am in a much better place, where I can perform well and do some good things in a meeting like that.

“There are always ifs and buts, but if I’m not ready for Speedway GP now, then when? I am the best I have ever been in my career. I am racing the fastest speedway I have ever produced.

“I feel mentally ready for it for sure. There are a few organisational things to work on and maybe things with the bikes. Perhaps I will need a bit of extra equipment. But we can always sort that.

“I have massively great backing from my sponsors, family and people around me, so I have no doubt I have the setup required to race there and do well.”
