Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen admits his Speedway GP return “took a little bit of getting used to” as he prepares for the DEWALT FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on Saturday.
MJJ, who defends his Danish Championship crown in Esbjerg this evening, is a full-time Speedway GP rider for the first time since 2015 this year.
While he struggled to just two championship points at the opening round in Landshut on May 2, he hit back with fourth place at round two in Prague, before scoring 11 at round three in Manchester and surging to second place on night two of the National Speedway Stadium double-header.
After finding himself 15th in the standings after round one, MJJ is now fourth overall on 45 points – 20 behind leader Brady Kurtz.
Jepsen Jensen admits he is learning fast on his Speedway GP return after reaching two finals in the last three rounds.
He said: “The goal is always to be in that final heat. I messed up the first GP in Landshut, but I learned a lot from that. I also learned a lot from the last event in Prague. Manchester gave me a lot as well.
“To be fair, it’s a long time since I have been in the GPs. It took a little bit of getting used to being back here, even though I did Vojens as a wild card last year. Just being in the right place and feeling comfortable isn’t easy, but I finally felt better on Saturday. It was a good practice run on Friday. I am happy – I finished fifth that night. Being in the final again was the main goal.”
MJJ would love to push for the Speedway GP podium in 2026 as he bids to complete his storied return to the top of the sport after 11 years out of the World Championship.
He said: “Of course I want to be up on the podium. If not, I don’t want to be here. If I don’t feel I can compete, I would rather watch it on the telly.
“I feel like I am getting stronger. My results this year haven’t been that bad, except for Landshut. I haven’t always felt comfortable. We have been playing around with the bikes a bit too much because we are hungry for things to get better. I am finally starting to get comfortable. Things are getting better, and I believe I will be strong.”
