Danish champion Michael Jepsen Jensen insists he’s learning from his mistakes in his Speedway GP comeback season.
After collecting two championship points at the opening round in Landshut on May 2, MJJ stormed to fourth place at the FIM Speedway GP of Czech Republic – Prague on May 23.
As a result, he heads into the ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester double-header on Friday and Saturday, placed 10th in the Speedway GP World Championship on 16 points.
It’s Jepsen Jensen’s first full-time Speedway GP season since 2015 and he was delighted to reach his first final of the year in Prague. Now he’s determined to keep learning and continue his upturn in form at the National Speedway Stadium.
He said: “Prague was an improvement from the last one, which we needed. I still didn’t feel super good, but for sure there were some improvements, and it was a little bit of a boost for me. It’s going to be exciting in Manchester.
“In Landshut, we made some mistakes. This is my first time back in Speedway GP, so I think it’s okay to have some failures. We learn from mistakes.
“Landshut was just a day to forget. Even though I haven’t felt 100 percent, I have still been decent in the leagues. It’s not like we need to flip everything around and we haven’t done that. We need to believe in the package we have.”
MJJ was pleased to reach the fifth Speedway GP final of his career on a Prague track, where he last appeared in 2015. He said: “It’s a bit of a tricky place. Prague is always a very important meeting in the season, with good riders in the final.
“Prague has a reputation for being quite important in the standings at the end of the season, with so many riders who do well here going on to win the championship, so that result was important for my head as well.
“There are a lot of positives to build on. We have a few things to work on. Hopefully Manchester can be even better.”
