KILDEMAND SET TO RETIRE

Former Speedway GP and FIM Speedway World Cup winner Peter Kildemand has announced that this will be his final season in the sport.

Kildemand, 36, topped the podium at the 2015 FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Horsens and the 2016 FIM Speedway GP of Slovenia – Krsko. He spent two full seasons in the World Championship series in 2016 and 2017, as well as racing as first substitute in 2015.

The all-action Odense-born star was part of Denmark’s victorious side at the 2014 FIM Speedway World Cup Final in Bydgoszcz.

A 2012 Elite League champion with Swindon, Kildemand made a surprise return to British racing with Oxford Spires in the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership last year, as well as racing for Berwick in the Cab Direct Championship.

As well as continuing with the Bandits, he is competing for Premiership frontrunners Belle Vue in 2026 and hopes to end his career as a league champion.

Announcing the news on his social media channels, Kildemand wrote: “Dear speedway fans, tonight is a very special evening for me. After 33 years in the sport, 16 of them as a professional, I have chosen that this season will be my last as an active speedway rider.

“It is a decision I have thought about a lot. Speedway has been a huge part of my life, and the sport has given me far more than I ever dared to dream of. Therefore, it feels right to stop now, while I can make the decision and say goodbye on my own terms.

“I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved, and of what I have been allowed to experience over the years. But no career is built alone. Therefore, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the fans who have followed me through thick and thin. Your support at the tracks has meant more than you will ever know.

“Thank you to my sponsors who have believed in me and supported me throughout the journey. Without you, this would never have been possible.

“And the biggest thank you goes to my family, my friends, my wife, and our two lovely boys. You have been there every single day, both when it was time to work in the workshop and when life outside the track had to come together.

“Now I look forward to a new chapter and to spending even more time with them. Thank you for 33 fantastic years.”

Everyone at FIM Speedway wishes Peter all the best for the future.
