Polish racer Dominik Kubera is elated to have overcome his mid-season blip to secure his spot in Speedway GP for 2026.
The 2023 FIM Speedway World Cup winner topped the podium at last Saturday’s FIM SGP Challenge in Holsted to join Kacper Woryna, Leon Madsen and Andzejs Lebedevs in winning a guaranteed spot in the 2026 Speedway GP World Championship.
Kubera raced to 25 points across the first two Speedway GP rounds in Landshut and Warsaw, including a fourth-place finish at PGE Narodowy. But since then, he has reached two last-chance qualifiers from the last six rounds going into the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on August 30.
But Kubera heads to the Olympic Stadium, lifted by securing his SGP status for a third straight season and believes he can now go into the final two rounds of 2025 in a much more relaxed mood.
He said: “I had many problems this year in the middle of the season. Now it is a little bit better, and my scores have been getting better and better.
“My goal is to keep pushing as hard as I can now for the rest of the meetings. Now I have had a little bit of pressure taken off me and I will feel looser for the next round of the GPs.”
Kubera is currently ninth in the Speedway GP World Championship but hopes his growing experience on the sport’s biggest stadium will help him go for glory in 2026. He said: “Now I have more experience, I am older, and I think I know more. Speedway is sometimes crazy, but we will see what happens and I will fight.”
Before he resumes his Speedway GP season, Kubera lines up in Friday’s third and final round of the Polish Championship in Czestochowa, where he goes for his first national senior title.
Kubera is second in the standings on 28 points – four behind frontrunner Patryk Dudek, who has 32, with five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik third on 26. SGP2 champion Wiktor Przyjemski and newly-qualified 2026 Speedway GP star Kacper Woryna are deadlocked on 22.
