LAMBERT UP FOR THE CHASE IN SPEEDWAY GP WORLD TITLE RACE

Great Britain racer Robert Lambert is ready to keep Speedway GP top two Bartosz Zmarzlik and Brady Kurtz on their toes for the closing rounds.

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes a pause for the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw at PGE Narodowy on August 29, with all three riders tipped to captain their country into the biggest track racing event of 2026.

This offers them a break from SGP battle ahead of the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on September 12.

Lambert is third in the Speedway GP standings on 119 points – just 10 behind leader Zmarzlik (129) and six short of second-placed Kurtz (125). While the Pole extended his lead over the Brit from eight to 10 with victory in Riga on August 8, Norfolk’s finest is still within reach.

With 48 points still on the line across the final two rounds in Vojens and Torun (September 26), there is still everything to race for across two SGP rounds and two sprint races.

While Lambert knows overhauling the top two will be no easy task, the FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Lodz winner is ready to make things exciting in the individual world title race.

He said: “Even though there was a lot of talk after the one in Lodz, eight points was massive and now it’s 10 to Bartek. Both Brady and Bartek are so consistent, and it’s going to be tough to pull them back. There’s no pressure on me – I can only do what I can do. I’ll just push them and keep them on their toes.

“It seems to be going well at the moment. I am happy with that, and I am in a nice comfortable position going into the last two.

“It’s a great thing for people to be talking about – there’s some excitement around the top three. I’ll just ride my bike and do the best I can, and we’ll see where it leaves me at the end of the season.

“The top seven was the goal in the beginning. We have moved those goalposts to a medal. I think a medal is pretty secure. I still need to do the job, but if I can push further forward, it will be even more of a bonus.”

Having won the FIM SGP Challenge in Terenzano on July 25, Lambert’s spot in the 2027 Speedway GP series is already guaranteed. He admits this has taken the pressure off the final rounds of 2026 after enduring a tense finish to 2025 in the battle for qualification.

He said: “I am happy with that, and I don’t have pressure on myself about next year. Last season there was a lot of pressure on me just to get myself in for the following season.

“I am in a good position with that and if I can fight for a higher position in the standings in the end, then that’s a great bonus.

“It’s much better this season. I have lots of confidence on the bike. I feel great on the bike at the moment. When things are working underneath me, then I can ride the bike to the max and get the best out of it.”
