European champion Andzejs Lebedevs would love to crown an historic 2025 season by becoming Latvia’s first-ever Speedway GP winner after booking his place in the 2026 series.
Lebedevs lines up at the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on Saturday, safe in the knowledge that his 2026 Speedway GP place is secure after finishing fourth at the FIM SGP Challenge in Holsted on August 9.
Having received a permanent wild card for the 2024 series and qualified for this season as Speedway European Championship winner, Lebedevs is delighted to be lining up in Speedway GP for a third straight full season.
But he’s also determined to end 2025 on a high. After reaching his first SGP podiums at German track Landshut on May 3 and at his home event in Riga on August 2, Lebedevs would love to win one of this year’s final two rounds.
And a rider placed sixth in the Speedway GP World Championship is aiming even higher for next year.
He said: “Mission completed! Now I can go into the final two rounds of the GP relaxed and enjoy it. It doesn’t matter what happens; I can just enjoy the rest of the season.
“I think that will help me win my first GP this year. That’s my plan. I want to win my first GP this year. Next year, I will go for a medal.”
