LINDGREN LIFTS SWEDISH TITLE NO.5

Speedway GP star Fredrik Lindgren became a five-time national champion after storming to victory at the Swedish Championship Final in Norrkoping on Monday night.

Lindgren raced to 13 points from five rides to book his place in the final, with former Speedway GP rival Kim Nilsson topping the score chart on 14.

But Vastervik racer Lindgren got the better of the former FIM SGP Challenge winner when it mattered most, triumphing in the final ahead of Nilsson in second, with two-time Swedish champion Jacob Thorssell third and Timo Lahti fourth.

Victory sees Lindgren add to his 2018, 2021, 2023 and 2024 Swedish Championship wins, matching the five gold medals won by former FIM Speedway world champion Anders Michanek. Only nine-time winner Ove Fundin, eight-time champion Tony Rickardsson and former world No.2 Andreas Jonsson on seven have now won more.

Former Finnish international Lahti also scored 13 points in the heats to join Nilsson and Lindgren in gaining automatic final qualification.

The last spot was claimed when Thorssell won the last-chance race ahead of former Speedway GP star Oliver Berntzon, Ludvig Lindgren – Freddie’s younger brother – and SGP2 star Casper Henriksson.

Thorssell registered 11 points in the heats, while Ludvig Lindgren collected 10, and Berntzon and Henriksson notched nine. Ex-Speedway GP rider Tomas H Jonasson and former SGP2 rider Philip Hellstrom-Bangs missed the last-chance race cut on seven.
