Polish racer Maciej Janowski has his sights set on a Speedway GP comeback when he goes for Speedway European Championship gold in Pardubice on Friday evening.
The European champion is the final rider to be guaranteed a spot in the 2027 Speedway GP series, alongside the top seven riders in the SGP World Championship and the four qualifiers from the FIM SGP Challenge in Terenzano on July 25.
SEC frontrunners Kacper Woryna and Leon Madsen lead the standings on 34 points, with Michael Jepsen Jensen and Janowski chasing on 33 and reigning European champion Patryk Dudek on 30. Czech rider Jan Kvech in sixth place on 29 and triple European champion Mikkel Michelsen in seventh spot on 28 are also in the hunt.
Janowski finished second at the last round in Rzeszow on September 19 and is hopeful of taking that momentum to Pardubice as he bids to become a full-time Speedway GP rider for the first time since 2023. He said: “I will do everything I can to win in Pardubice. I haven’t been there for a long time, but I have very good memories from this track, so let’s end this season with good scores.
“I am really enjoying racing this year and how everything is working. It’s looking good and I am very happy on the bike.
“It would be great if I could get back into Speedway GP – it could be another great competition in front of me. I love the sport, so if I have the chance to race again in Speedway GP, I will do so.”
If Woryna, Madsen, MJJ or Dudek wins the SEC crown this evening, having already qualified for Speedway GP via a top-seven finish or the FIM SGP Challenge, the SGP Commission will nominate a fourth permanent wild card for the 2027 SGP World Championship on top of their usual list of three.
