MAGIC WINS IN GUSTROW AS SPEEDWAY EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP RACE TIGHTENS UP

Polish racer Maciej Janowski topped the podium at round two of the Speedway European Championship in Gustrow on Saturday.

The Wroclaw icon won the final in Germany ahead of Czech champion Jan Kvech in second place, Danish star Michael Jepsen Jensen in third and Poland’s Kacper Woryna, who crashed out of the race and was placed fourth.

While both Janowski and Kvech left Gustrow with 13 championship points, it’s Speedway GP duo Leon Madsen and Jepsen Jensen, who lead the overall SEC standings on 24 points apiece after MJJ collected 11 and Madsen tallied 10 as he exited in the last-chance qualifier.

With Kvech topping the heat score chart on 11, he progressed straight to the final along with MJJ, who bagged 10. Woryna won the last-chance race ahead of Janowski as the pair progressed to the final too, seeing off Madsen in third and Britain’s Tom Brennan in fourth.

Brennan made the LCQ cut on 10, missing out on countback after tying on points with Jepsen Jensen, Madsen, Janowski and Woryna after 20 heats, with MJJ’s three race wins sending him straight to the final, while his rivals registered two each.

Danish star Mikkel Michelsen missed the LCQ cut on nine points, with Britain’s Adam Ellis, reigning champion Patryk Dudek, Germany’s Kai Huckenbeck and Poland’s Przemyslaw Pawlicki all falling short on eight. SGP star Nazar Parnitskyi and Piotr Pawlicki registered five and four respectively, while Latvia’s Andzejs Lebedevs endured a night to forget on three.

While Madsen and Jepsen Jensen lead the SEC race on 24, the title fight is on a knife edge with two rounds of the series remaining at Polish track Rzeszow on September 19 and Czech venue Pardubice on October 2.

Dudek is just two behind on 22 in third, with Kvech, Huckenbeck and Michelsen all tied on 20 in fourth, fifth and sixth and Janowski closing on the frontrunners on 19 in seventh place. Woryna is also in the race on 18 points in eighth spot.

The winner of the 2026 SEC series is guaranteed a place in the 2027 Speedway GP World Championship. Should the European champion also finish in this season’s SGP top seven or the top four at the FIM SGP Challenge, their qualification spot from the SEC series would be allocated to an additional permanent wild card by the SGP Commission.

The top six riders from this season’s SEC series are all guaranteed a place in the 2027 Speedway European Championship.
