Former FIM Speedway World Cup winner Michael Jepsen Jensen returns to British racing for the first time in 11 years with Rowe Motor Oil Premiership club Birmingham.
MJJ last competed in Britain’s top flight with Coventry in 2014, but the 2012 FIM Speedway Under-21 world champion and former FIM Nordic Speedway GP winner enjoyed a sublime finish to 2024, winning the Danish Speedwayligaen with Slangerup and helping Polish club Grudziadz into the PGE Ekstraliga play-offs for the first time in their history.
He join forces with Slovenian star Matej Zagar, Polish racer Tobiasz Musielak, former SGP2 star Keynan Rew, fellow Danish rider Jonas Jeppesen and rising star Jason Edwards, with one rider still to be announced by Birmingham.
Brummies CEO Nigel Tolley is delighted to have added Jepsen Jensen to the Perry Barr team. He said: “As we’ve made public knowledge recently, as a management team, we were very keen to do everything we could to add a genuine, quality heat leader to our starting line-up. We looked far and wide, drew up a shortlist and following a combination of things, we whittled the list down bit by bit.
“We’re delighted to have Michael as a Birmingham rider and again, we feel he will complement the rest of our team well. Anyone who has seen him at any point during his career will know what a real talent he is and, while it has been a while since he raced in the UK, we know what he is capable of.
“Speaking to him throughout the negotiations, you can really sense his hunger, and he has some really big aspirations for 2025. We’re looking forward to seeing how he settles in at Perry Barr, and he’s someone who has got what it takes to push to be a No.1 in this league.
“We now know what avenue we want to go down to complete our starting one-to-seven and hopefully we’ll be able to finalise that in the coming days.”
