Polish boss Stanislaw Chomski has extended his stay as national team manager after penning a one-year deal for 2027.
The former Gorzow team manager, who played a role in six-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik’s rapid rise in the sport, led Poland to 2005 FIM Speedway World Cup gold in Wroclaw, before handing over the reins to Marek Cieslak. But he returned for 2026, leading the Poles to bronze at the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw last August.
Chomski now bids to take Poland to its first-ever FIM Speedway of Nations gold medal as they seek to qualify for the Final in Vastervik on August 28. It’s a challenge he looks forward to. He said: “There are offers you just can't refuse. We didn't manage to win gold in the Team World Cup in Warsaw this year, but maybe things will be different at next year's Speedway of Nations Final in Vastervik. It's that incentive and that challenge that intrigues me.”
Chomski will soon select his squad for 2027 as he targets success in the SON and in FIM Europe events. He added: "We know that the most important thing will be the SON, but that's not everything, so we have to pay attention to the details.”
Ireneusz Igielski, chairman of the GKSŻ, commented: “I'm very happy to have extended my collaboration with coach Stanisław Chomski.
“We are very pleased with this year's collaboration with Coach Chomski. We understood each other very well on all matters. He is an exceptional figure in Polish speedway – a coaching legend, a man with vast experience, passion, and an invaluable contribution to the development of successive generations of riders.
“Raising a champion like Bartosz Zmarzlik best demonstrates his immense talent for working with riders. I am convinced that his knowledge and authority will continue to serve Polish speedway.”
