NEW WITCHES DEAL FOR ELLIS

Great Britain star Adam Ellis admits it was a “no-brainer” to extend his stay with Rowe Motor Oil Premiership side Ipswich into 2025.

Ellis joined the club ahead of last season, helping them reach the play-off semi-finals, only for their title hopes to be dashed by a catalogue of injuries to riders like Jason Doyle and Emil Sayfutdinov.

The former British champion hopes to play a key role in taking the Witches to the Grand Final in 2025.

He told the club’s website: “I’m happy to be back and wanted to be from the beginning, and I’m looking forward to it.

“Not much has changed from when I was first with the club (in 2013 and 2014), (promoter) Chris (Louis) and (team manager) Ritchie (Hawkins) have both got a bit older though! It’s like a family here; everyone gets on really well which makes it nice coming to Ipswich every week.

“For me, it was a no-brainer, and I think that was the same for many of the other guys in the team next year. We get on well, so hopefully we can hit the ground running early on, avoid injuries and finish what we started last year.”

Ellis hopes the Witches can enjoy an injury-free campaign next season. He added: “2024 was up and down, but if we had kept the same one to seven as we had at the start of the year until the end, I can’t see how anyone would have beaten us.

“Next year is going to be pretty much the same again, so hopefully we can all stay injury free and have a good year. I think everyone hates the track apart from me, so that helps! It is a track I like, and I have always enjoyed coming here. I enjoyed every aspect of last year, so hopefully it will be the same again next year.”
