Former Swedish star Kim Nilsson stormed to his first Swedish Championship to earn the BST FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla wild card, subject to ratification from the SGP Commission.
Nilsson powered through to the final in Karlstad with 14 points from his five heats, joining double Swedish champion Jacob Thorssell, who qualified on 12, and former SGP star Oliver Berntzon, who made it on 11.
They were joined by Timo Lahti, who defeated former SGP2 star Casper Henriksson, Jonathan Ejnermark and Tomas H Jonasson in the semi-final.
Berntzon emerged from a chaotic first turn leading the final, but Nilsson overhauled him with a huge move to punch his ticket to Sweden’s biggest speedway event in Malilla on Saturday July 11, subject to ratification from the SGP Commission.
The weekend also features the opening round of SGP2 – the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship – on Friday, July 10, with the FIM SGP4 World Championship taking place on Saturday, July 11 on the Malilla training track.
