Poland’s Speedway Ekstraliga has announced a three-year agreement with the British, Swedish and Danish top flights – paving the way for riders to compete in two of the other top tiers.
It had previously been suggested that riders competing in the PGE Ekstraliga and Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga – Poland’s top two divisions – could only compete in one other league.
But this has been expanded to a maximum of two, meaning a rider racing in Poland can also compete in Sweden and Denmark, Denmark and Britain or Britain and Sweden, should they wish to do so.
Each league is allocated set race days, with Polish meetings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, British events on Monday and Thursday, Swedish meetings on Tuesdays and Danish fixtures on Wednesdays.
The Ekstraliga statement confirms that the restrictions do not apply to leagues in nations like Germany, Czech Republic, France and others, with riders also allowed to compete in these countries. But in the event of a schedule conflict, a fixture in the slot-based countries Poland, Britain, Sweden or Denmark would take priority.
According to the statement, it has also been agreed that top-flight clubs in Sweden, Denmark and Britain must track at least one domestic under-21 rider in their team. In Britain’s case, this means their Rising Stars will now all be under-21 riders for 2027, with one additional domestic or international under-21 star required.
In addition, the Autocycle Union has ruled that any riders competing on a British licence must compete for a British club if they are to receive start permission to race abroad.
