Poland’s five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik surpassed boyhood idol Tomasz Gollob’s SGP finals tally as he topped the ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester R5 podium on Saturday.
Zmarzlik stormed to second spot in round four at Britain’s National Speedway Stadium on Friday night and he went one better on Saturday, seeing off Aussie ace Brady Kurtz in a dramatic final.
As well as notching a record-extending 29th Speedway GP win, Zmarzlik’s 66th final appearance saw him better 2010 Speedway GP world champion Gollob’s total of 65. Only American icon Greg Hancock (92) and Aussie legend Jason Crump (77) have now reached more SGP finals.
Kurtz defied a crash in heat 15 to take second place and remains hot on Zmarzlik’s heels in the Speedway GP World Championship race, with the Pole 11 points ahead on 93 and Kurtz on 82.
Sweden’s Fredrik Lindgren took third place, moving third in the standings on 70, with Australia’s Jack Holder fourth on the night, leaving him fourth overall on 68 points.
