Polish Speedway GP duo Bartosz Zmarzlik and Dominik Kubera both picked up prestigious victories in their homeland on Sunday as they warm up for the 2025 FIM Speedway Grand Prix season.
Zmarzlik stormed to the top of the podium at the Crown of Bolesław the Brave event in Gniezno, winning the final ahead of 2021 Speedway GP world champion Artem Laguta in second and Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs in third.
Aussie star Jason Doyle was set for second place as his comeback from a torn rotator cuff picks up pace, but he lost power on the second lap and was forced to settle for fourth spot.
Zmarzlik zoomed straight through to the final on 13 points from five rides, with Lebedevs joining him on 12.
Doyle scored 11, before winning the semi-final to qualify alongside Laguta, who was second in the race. The three-time FIM Speedway of Nations world champion tallied 10 in the heats.
They saw off Poland’s Robert Chmiel in third and Swedish star Fredrik Lindgren in fourth, with the world No.3 collecting 10 points in the heats. Also in action was Aussie racer Jack Holder, who scored seven points.
Elsewhere, Kubera returned to his home city Leszno to triumph in the club’s Alfred Smoczyk Memorial meeting. He defeated Danish rider Nicolai Klindt in a run-off for first place after they tied on 13 from five heats. Last year’s SGP2 runner-up Nazar Parnitskyi claimed third place on 12.
Meanwhile, Zmarzlik and Kubera could be in action in Rzeszow on June 7 after it was confirmed the club will host a Poland versus the Rest of the World test match.
