PRZYJEMSKI: MY HARDEST-EARNED MALILLA WIN IN SGP2

Polish shooting star Wiktor Przyjemski made it a magical Malilla hat-trick on Friday night and admits his third BST FIM SGP2 of Sweden victory was the hardest-fought of them all.

Malilla’s Skrotfrag Arena has hosted the opening round of the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship for three straight seasons, and Bydgoszcz hero Przyjemski has topped the podium in all three.

After fighting his way through the last-chance qualifiers to reach the final, he saw off a high-speed pursuit by Denmark’s 2025 SGP2 bronze medallist Mikkel Andersen, who was second, to take the win.

Third place was awarded to Danish racer Villads Nagel, who crashed on the last lap of the final after colliding with falling compatriot William Drejer, who was placed fourth.

But it was Przyjemski who left Malilla celebrating. The Rospiggarna rider won the 2024 SGP2 title, before finishing second in 2025 – a series blighted by the ankle injury he suffered in Swedish league action last August.

Przyjemski was delighted to get back on top of the SGP2 podium and admits this was hardest-earned victory at the Skrotfrag Arena.

He said: “It’s a great comeback to SGP2 for me after the injury I suffered last year. I am very happy with the win tonight.

“I don’t know what it is about Malilla. But of all three wins, this was the most difficult to achieve. Before the final, I did not believe in the setup we had. I didn’t believe that the risk we took would pay off. But it did pay off, and I am very happy with that.

“Track conditions changed. The beginning of the meeting was excellent for me and so was the final. In the middle part, we made some mistakes, but we recovered.

“We didn’t change a single thing from our setups for Qualifying for the duration of the 20 heats. It was the same setup, but we made slight changes for LCQ2. That paid off. Then we made a major change for the final. It paid off.

“I would have been happy with fourth place in the final considering everything that happened today. But it’s one of my favourite places. There is something about Malilla that I love and understand.”

Next up for Przyjemski is the FIM SGP2 of Poland – Lodz on Friday, July 31, and the four-time FIM Speedway of Nations – SON2 world champion can’t wait to compete in his homeland.

He said: “It would be great to win an SGP2 round in Poland, the second round. I know the track pretty well. I raced there in the Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga two years ago and set the track record. Now it’s going to be two weeks of practising and testing. I am practising and racing on a day-to-day basis.”

Runner-up Andersen was pleased to reach the Malilla rostrum after enduring weeks blighted by the broken fibula that he suffered at the 2026 SON2 event in Prague on May 22.

He said: “This is mega, to be honest. I can’t thank the team at my Polish club Wroclaw enough for their help and for what they have done for me, for all of their hospitality and physio. They have put in a lot of work, and they still are helping.

“The leg feels good when I am riding. It could still be better, but it is great to come here and put on a good show for everybody. We need to push in the second half of the season.”

Andersen also can’t wait to test himself on familiar territory in Lodz. He said: “I raced for the club for one season last year, and it was one of my favourite tracks. I am looking forward to going there to see the people again. I enjoyed that place and hopefully my team and I can find something that works well.”

Third-placed Nagel admits he needed time to assess his condition after his crash in the final, but he was content to leave Malilla with third place.

He said: “I have a lot of adrenaline right now, so we need to wait a few minutes so that I can calm down and feel what’s going on in my body. It’s so far, so good. I feel like nothing is broken, so that’s a positive thing.

“Third place is okay. To be honest, it was a good night. The final was absolutely terrible. I made an alright start, but I ended up with a crash. It was not the best heat of the day, but I got the third place in the end, so I am happy with that.”

Nagel can’t wait to race round two on his Polish home track in Lodz. He said: “Hopefully it will be a good meeting. It’s always a different track for GP events, as everyone knows. But I think and hope it will be a good meeting.”
