RIP MIKE PATRICK

Everyone at FIM Speedway is saddened to hear of the passing of legendary FIM Speedway Grand Prix photographer Mike Patrick.

Photographing the sport’s top riders for decades after first picking up a camera in the late sixties, Mike established himself as the sport’s finest photographer – covering FIM Speedway World Finals and later the Speedway GP series from its launch in 1995 until his retirement in 2010. His images immortalised the sport’s icons and will also ensure his legacy lives on.

Mike passed away on Friday morning after battling illness in recent years. We send our love and support to his wife Jenny and his family at this sad time.

We honour his life with one of his most famous images – featuring four-time FIM Speedway world champion Hans Nielsen performing a wheelie at Oxford with Mike led on the track to secure the ultimate shot. Photo courtesy of the John Somerville Collection.
