Teenage sensation Mario Hausl hopes to take speedway to the Seychelles after helping Germany to an historic FIM Speedway of Nations – SON2 world title in Torun on October 3.
Hausl joined forces with 2025 SGP2 star Norick Blodorn and Hannah Grunwald to lift the FIM Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship – Germany’s first world team title at any level.
Their victory came as a shock to many, although Hausl’s win at the prestigious Golden Ribbon meeting in Pardubice sent him to Torun with plenty of momentum. The Landshut star, who competes for the German club in Poland’s National League, also came agonisingly close to winning European Under-19 Pairs Championship bronze last month, denied only by Czech star Adam Bednar following a run-off.
While he was born in Munich and learned his trade in Bavaria, Hausl’s mother Fabiola was born in the Seychelles, and Mario recently met the island’s president to update him on his burgeoning speedway career. Having received coverage in the Seychelles media for his speedway success, Hausl dreams of bringing the sport to the island nation in the Indian Ocean.
He said: “I have met the president, vice president and the sports president. I went there with my family, and we have good connections there. The sports academy president talked with the president and maybe for next year they will help me with a few things.
“Maybe they will build a track in the Seychelles – that would be great. Maybe I could go to the Seychelles and practice there. Last Christmas, I was in the Seychelles and had a meeting with the sports academy president. After this, we went to the city, and everyone came to me and wanted a picture or autograph. It’s going fast!”
Hausl’s profile in Europe is set to rise too after a stellar SON2 performance. Now he would love to be part of SGP2 – the individual FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship. He admits injury hampered his efforts to make the 2025 line-up. “Unfortunately, the qualifier didn’t go well for me,” he said.
“I had pain in both hands. One or two years ago, I had an accident with my left hand and then last year, I had the same accident with my right. I raced three or four heats in Pardubice in the qualifier and then it was over because of the pain. I am really looking forward to next year, though. Hopefully I can take the chance, and I will try my best.”
