TIME OUT FOR WRIGHT

Former British champion Charles Wright faces a stint on the sidelines after suffering shoulder injuries in Redcar’s Tyne Tees Trophy clash with a Newcastle Select side on Friday night.

Wright sustained the injuries in a first-bend incident in heat 15, having scored seven paid eight points up going into the nominated race.

According to his Cab Direct Championship side Redcar, Wright now faces a break from action.

The club posted on Facebook: “Unfortunately our skipper suffered a dislocated and fractured shoulder in heat 15 of last night’s Tyne Tees Trophy. He has been discharged from hospital and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“We send our best wishes to Charles and would like to thank all the medics and hospital staff that took care of him last night.”

Wright is currently without a Rowe Motor Oil Premiership team but has been linked with league newcomers Northampton.

He races for German club Landshut in Poland’s National League and could have been in contention to race when Great Britain competes in WWK FIM Speedway World Cup Semi-Final 1 at the OneSolar Arena on May 1 against Germany, Czech Republic and Ukraine for a spot in the BOLL FIM SWC Final in Warsaw on August 29.
