Speedway GP newcomer Kacper Woryna took a step closer to securing his spot in the 2027 SGP series after storming to victory in Poland’s Golden Helmet Final in Opole on Monday.
Woryna followed in the footsteps of his legendary grandfather Antoni, who won the event twice in 1967 and 1971, with the Lublin star topping the podium on 14 points. He finished ahead of Speedway GP rival Dominik Kubera, who was second on 12, and former SGP winner Piotr Pawlicki, who was third on 11. Six-time world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik finished fourth with 10 points.
The tournament serves as Poland’s national qualification event for the international Speedway GP and Speedway European Championship qualifiers.
As a result, Woryna, Kubera and Pawlicki will represent Poland in the Speedway GP qualifiers, battling for the right to compete at the FIM SGP Challenge in Terenzano, Italy on July 25, where the top four riders secure places in the 2027 SGP series.
Meanwhile, former Speedway GP regulars Pawel Przedpelski, Maciej Janowski and Przemyslaw Pawlicki, who all scored nine points, will contest the SEC qualifiers for a place in the 2026 Speedway European Championship. The winner of the four-round series also earns qualification for the 2027 Speedway GP World Championship.
Polish team manager Stanislaw Chomski has one more SEC qualification place to issue to a wild card. The recipient is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday.
Reigning European champion Patryk Dudek qualified via the SEC route in 2025, but missed out in the Golden Helmet, where he scored five points.
Fortunately for him, he will still contest the SEC series as reigning champion and can also fight for a spot in this year’s SGP top seven, which would make certain of his place in next year’s Speedway GP World Championship. Woryna is also in the SEC series after finishing fourth in the 2025 competition.
