Big-hearted five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik ensured a young Polish rider can get back on track after replacing his stolen speedway equipment.
Stal Gorzow rider Jakub Godzina, aged 11, feared he would have to pause his fledgling career after thieves stole all of his equipment from the parking lot of his apartment building in Wawrów, near Gorzow, on Sunday night.
The van contained a motocross bike, two bicycles and a full set of speedway kit, including a helmet – a loss estimated at around 40,000 PLN. While the van was found in nearby woodland, the equipment was no longer inside.
When he heard about the story, Zmarzlik joined forces with his main sponsor Orlen to replace Jakub’s speedway bike and helmet.
Posting on Facebook, he wrote: “Kuba! Together with the Orlen Team we have good news for you. You will get a new motorcycle and helmet from us, so you can get back to training in a moment. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you!”
Zmarzlik takes his place in the OlyBet FIM Speedway GP of Latvia – Riga this Saturday, bidding to top the podium at Bikernieki for the third straight season. And he definitely won’t be short of support in the Godzina household!
