Polish icon Bartosz Zmarzlik admits the PGE Narodowy track “is still a mystery to me” after his side finished third at the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw on Saturday.
The six-time Speedway GP world champion led the home side’s scoring on 11 points from six rides as they finished on 29 – one short of Denmark in second and nine short of world champions Australia.
In 10 FIM Speedway events at PGE Narodowy, there has never been a Polish winner. Reflecting on a tough night for his side, Zmarzlik told Sportowefakty.pl: "I was losing starts. We'll try to find the answer to why soon.
“This track is still a mystery to me. I felt very slow, which meant I was choosing the wrong paths. It's all interconnected. I didn't feel the speed of the bike, which meant I had to think harder, and as a result, I rode worse.
“I'm sure each of us left our hearts on the track and did everything we could to win. On the other hand, we have to be happy with the bronze medal. Australia has been racing well here for a long time.
“This track has nothing in common with Polish tracks, except that it was built in Warsaw. It has to be said that it causes us problems.”
Zmarzlik bids to defend his four-point advantage at the SGP summit when he lines up in the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on September 12.
